Psychotherapy (or talk therapy) is a safe, supportive relationship where you can share your innermost thoughts and feelings without being judged. Through a gentle approach of giving and receiving feedback and practicing coping skills together, you’ll build resilience, self-awareness, and emotional intelligence. Talk therapy sometimes involves learning new skills (like how to set and hold boundaries, or how to self-regulate your nervous system), sometimes it looks like exploring past experiences and making sense of their impact on your personality, and sometimes it involves just feeling heard and valued by someone who cares. Therapeutic relationships can last anywhere from a few months to several years depending on your goals and needs.
I offer 50-minute sessions weekly or every/other week on a safe and secure telehealth platform.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a highly effective, evidence-based treatment for healing both single traumatic incidents and long-term childhood trauma. I highly recommend it as a stand-alone treatment or as an add-on to talk therapy. It is also an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, OCD, and phobias. I completed the EMDR basic training and consultation through EMDRIA and have been doing trauma treatment and education for individuals and groups for nearly ten years. Read more about EMDR on their website: EMDR FAQ's
I offer 50-minute and 80-minute EMDR sessions on a secure telehealth platform. There is lots of research showing that EMDR is just as effective online as in-person.

Gender-affirming therapy is a type of talk therapy that comes from a trans-feminist perspective. That means I’m committed to helping you explore and express your authentic gender and helping you identify the ways that the expectations of a cisgender-dominated culture may be holding you back from living your most authentic life. We will explore the childhood experiences and ideas that have shaped your view of your gender role, experiment with ways to self-identify and express your gender identity authentically, and identify strategies for coming out to your family, friends, and coworkers. If applicable, I can provide education and support about medical transition, hormones, and surgery.

For many trans and non-binary clients hoping to access gender-affirming surgery, the process can often be complex and discouraging. From finding transgender-competent providers to choosing a surgeon to experiencing insurance denials, getting surgery is no walk in the park. Let me make the mental health portion of the process as easy as possible for you so that you can focus your attention on preparing for and recovering from surgery.
I have written GRS/gender affirming surgery letters for hundreds of people and have never had a letter denied. In my former work as a gender surgery patient navigator for the SF Department of Public Health, I helped many clients prepare for top surgery, FFS, body contouring, vaginoplasty, orchiectomy, and phalloplasty. I am happy to help be a support to you as you make decisions about what surgery is best for you, how to prepare for a consultation with the surgeon, and how to create an aftercare plan.
Gender surgery letters typically take 2-3 sessions to complete and review together - I want to make sure you feel accurately represented and that we check all of the boxes that your surgeon and insurance company will be asking for. I provide these services pro bono - that means you don’t pay unless you want to support my practice so that I can continuing providing this service for free to trans folks in need.

I create and facilitate trainings for individual providers, teams, and organizations on the following topics:
Providing therapy to transgender and non-binary clients.
Writing strengths-based letters for gender-affirming surgery (learn to write a letter that won’t get denied or negatively impact your therapeutic relationship).
As a former teacher and trainer, I have years of experience designing and facilitating trainings for the San Francisco Department of Public Health, SF Crisis Intervention Teams and Behavioral Health Teams, and in school classrooms. With extensive training and consultation from the creators of the WPATH Standards of Care for transgender clients, I have written hundreds of gender surgery letters, 100% of which have resulted in clients being approved for surgery.
